Description Jay LaCroix 2008-07-15 21:40:17 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux

In KDE 4.1 RC1, which I updated to today, I had a difficult time getting my widgets to save. (I deleted my .kde folders before setting it up).

When I logged in to a fresh RC1 set up, I went ahead and started setting up my desktop the way I like it. The first thing I did was add another folder view beside the one that appears by default. Then, I configured a JPG image as the wallpaper image. Next, I added the trash icon to the bottom right corner. Finally I disabled system sounds and the annoying blue stripes from the window borders.

I logged out, and then back in, and only the wallpaper image was saved. All plasmoids were removed from the desktop (both folder views, and the trash icon) and the widgets on the panel were rearranged in a weird order. (The kmenu was placed in between the desktop pager and the recent devices).

I did all of the above a second time and the same effect happened when I logged in again.

I found a work around to this issue though. After I delete my .kde folders again, I log in as usual, and then after the desktop loads I immediately log out without updating anything. After I did that, all the changes I made to my configuration going forward were all saved as expected and logging out and then back in I still had my setup the way I did it.

Can you retry this whole process and see what file is written for plasma settings (full path) after this action: "I found a work around to this issue though. After I delete my .kde folders again, I log in as usual, and then after the desktop loads I immediately log out without updating anything."

Does all this happen with any users? (try a fresh new user to see what happens please).

Thanks in advance!

I'm marking this as resolved for now. I thought that all of KDE 4.1 RC1 was installed but more packages are coming, I guess Kubuntu wasn't done compiling everything. I'm going to leave this resolved unless someone else has the problem.
