Description Bernhard Friedreich 2008-07-05 22:01:37 UTC
Version:            (using Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources
Compiler:          g++ (SUSE Linux) 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision 135036]
OS:                Linux

When I restarted my computer (plasma has normally shutdown last time (at least no crash report window opened)) the plasmoids in the panel where completely misordered (didn't change after another logout). The behaviour occurs really rarely but when it occur it persists until you remove your configs.

I've got a screenshot showing how the panel looks with numbers above every plasmoid (showing where they were before). I'll also attach the plasma-appletsrc

can you provide which version of plasma (either a release number/date or the svn revision number) and also upload your plasma-appletsrc file? thanks =)

mm.. 3 folderviews. cool
Comment 4 Bernhard Friedreich 2008-07-05 23:06:39 UTC
yeah.. folderviews are cool :-)

>> plasma --version
<unknown program name>(22170)/ checkComposite: Plasma has an argb visual 0x8060138 56623105
<unknown program name>(22170)/ checkComposite: Plasma can use COMPOSITE for effects on 0x8058840
Qt: 4.4.0
KDE: 4.00.85 (KDE 4.0.85 (KDE 4.1 >= 20080703))
Plasma Workspace: 0.1

can't provide the svn revision number because I've just updated svn but I currently can't compile kdebase .. so I've got no idea how I can get the currently compiled svn revision.

about the plasma-appletsrc file .. it's there.. comment #2 ^^

ps: I must say this.. You and all the other plasma devs are doing a really great work!!
Comment 5 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-07-05 23:18:25 UTC
doh.. i meant plasmarc, not plasma-appletsrc =/ sorrr.

(plasmarc contains panel view alignment and sizing information, the plasma-appletsrc contains the panel contents and on-canvas geometry; so in this case i'd like to be able to look at both)

KDE 4.1 >= 20080703 <-- that's enough =)

plasmarc config

no problem.. here's the plasmarc config

ps: not that you get scared.. with kdebase everything is ok.. I'm just breaking
my system atm by upgrading opensuse 11.0 to factory *beeing into reporting bugs
atm* ^^ so I can't compile it atm ^^
Comment 7 Bernhard Friedreich 2008-07-11 19:11:37 UTC
If you are interested.. this bug still exists in current trunk (4.2) :-(
Comment 8 Marcus Furlong 2008-07-30 16:06:04 UTC
I have the same problem with opensuse 11.0 rpms updated to the factory repos.

~ plasma -v
Qt: 4.4.0
KDE: 4.1.00 (KDE 4.1.0) "release 16.2"
Plasma Workspace: 0.1

There doesn't seem to be a plasmarc? Or maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

~/.kde4> find -name 'plasma*'
./share/config/plasma-appletsrc

I can confirm this too. It seems to be reproducible by adding plasmoids that takes all available space left in panel (like digital clock).

I can reproduce it that way:
- add top panel
- add (from left to right) application launcher, a .desktop shortcut (whatever), pager, quick access, device notifier, digital clock.
- squeeze it so it sits at center of the screen and so that plasmoids sits tightly together.
- lock widgets.
restart plasma

This has recently been fixed in trunk.
