Version: (using KDE 4.0.83) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux pause/previous/next buttons would really be nice... :)
BTW, I meant directly in the right-click menu from over the picture.
Do you mean in slideshow mode? Why would that be nice?
actually, my wife loves that plasmoid and stop doing her things on the computer just to watch pictures for a few minutes... (we have around 4000 random pictures in the loop). We've found that it would be nice being able to pause on a photo to show this specific picture to an invitee for example or to directly use the widget to show a few pictures by manipulating the speed and skip the uninteresting ones and go back on the one we accidently skipped (forward & back). Does that gives you be the big picture...?
I'd love to see forward/backwards/pause and open in gwenview (or really that should be open in default viewer for that filetype). This functionality is present in the Windows Vista pictures applet. The controls come up with a mouse-over, similar to gwenview in full screen mode. I think this is the best way of implementing it. Definitely don't want anything which only works when widgets are unlocked!
Open in GWenView (or default picture viewer) is done in trunk, will be available in 4.2. It is available through a menu item with right click. For the Pause, Next and Previous buttons I'll have to see if it's doable now or for 4.3.
thnx for the info! By the way, maybe how the previous/next is implemented for the garfield jokes plasmoid might help?
Hi Vincent! No, the Comic plasmoid cannot help as it's really buggy: it's not only the white arrow which is clickable but the whole area so when you move the pasmoid by clicking on that are it jumps to next/previous depending on the side you are. I don't want buggy stuff just for the sake of having a feature. I doubt I have time to implement it for 4.2 as I'll be on vacation for 2 weeks and freeze is soon. A mockup with some svg work for ex would help.

See #8 for a screenshot from a similar applet in Vista. I think it's pretty much exactly what everyone is after here. The buttons fade in over the picture with a "mouse over" and in order do: back, pause, forward, open in default viewer. Something like this would be great.
Sure, I just need to find someone to do them (in svg). As I said time is running out so we'll see if we can do something pretty in time for 4.2 It is on the TODO!
I can whip up some PNG images for icons in Kolourpaint if need be. If it must be SVG then I'll have to do some learning but that's not a problem. Let me know.
I am using 4.2.90 (KDE 4.3 beta 2) and I don't see any option to open the file, as I didn't in KDE 4.2.3... only "Picture Frame Settings", "Remove this picture" frame and "Panel Options". By the way I am using it in a top panel which is really big, at least 100px tall and it shows really neat in a 20" monitor. When I place it at my desktop, no menu option either. A good thing might be a hint showing at least the path, but other info may appear as well. I vote for this wish as picture frame is a great widget and I love to see my photos I've no time to see otherwise.
Tristan, the context menu "Open Picture..." using your global default picture editor is now working again in trunk.
Previous and Next are implemented now.
Merci! Hoping to try this in my next distribution release :)
