Version: (using KDE 4.0.83) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux Right clicking on icons in the Folder View widget lists multiple non-functional hot-key actions, specifically Ctl-X, Ctl-C, F2 and Del. These actions should be enabled or else removed from the menu altogether. Leaving them non-functional as is, not only confuses users, but gives KDE4 a somewhat awkward and undetailed appearance.
Keyboard input on the folderview widget does not perform these actions, but right-click + select from menu does. Confirmed in SVN r827766.
This is correct. Thus, as I indicated, the non-functional keyboard actions should either be enabled or their references removed from the menu.
I can confirm this too here (also svn)... it's pretty annoying so I would be grateful if someone could put a little effort into this to make them work

Editorializing? I thought what I was simply trying to report a problem and communicate its impact. And, of course, the objective fact is that these hot-keys are presently non-functional. I fail to see where I may have been editorializing, except that it might have been wiser of me to insert "IMO" into my statement regarding the user impact. Having said that, however, this is not the forum for this debate. A bug has been identified and the decision or not to fix it awaits. :)
if you click the border of the folderview, then try one of the shortcuts, does it work? I just tested 'move to trash' and 'rename', and both worked for me.
no.. doesn't work for me.. or I could'nt figure out what you mean by border.. but I've tried nearly everything .. just can't get those shortcuts to work (recent svn snapshot)
it's hard to explain, depends on your theme... try just a few pixels above the folder-name at the top... you have to click on the folderview applet, but outside any of the child widgets it creates. then if you hit ctrl-s and folderview settings comes up, you've got it. the cause of this is an annoying pair of qt bugs that interfere with both shortcut activation and telling which applet has focus.
puh... didn't get it... I've tried nearly every pixel I could find in a row... but I didn't get it..well ... doesn't matter too much.. seems we'll have to wait for the trolls to fix it/write patches for Qt/write ugly workarounds?
actually it seems I was wrong, fredrikh just committed a patch that should (at least mostly) fix things... the qt bug is still there, but it wasn't entirely responsible for the trouble this time.
The keyboard shortcuts will work in the upcoming RC1 release (and work in SVN as of today) if you click anywhere on the applet first to give it keyboard focus. They do actually work in beta2, but like Chani said, the only way to give the applet keyboard focus was to click on the border. These other related bugs have also been fixed since the beta2 release: * The applet wasn't repainted when it obtained or lost keyboard focus. * The shortcuts didn't work until after the context menu had been shown the first time. * The focused icon wasn't updated when icons were selected using the elastic band, only when an icon was clicked with the left or right mouse buttons.
I think I'm using the latest SVN (from KDE4Daily). This doesn't appear to have been fixed yet.
