Description Stephan Buehne 2008-07-03 12:03:04 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs
OS:                Linux

Using KNewsTicker for monitoring news. When calling a page on a specific HTML page konqueror crashes.
There is no Crash-report or further information generated.

The News reader address for testing is: http://www.derwesten.de/nachrichten/nachrichten.rss

Reproduction:
1. Add the news source "http://www.derwesten.de/nachrichten/nachrichten.rss" to KNewsTicker
2. Access to one of the news on this page => Konqueror crashed.
Comment 1 A. Spehr 2008-07-03 12:25:03 UTC
http://www.derwesten.de/ doesn't crash for me under r826995 (4.00.84), nor does it when under KNewsTicker when run inside of 4. Maybe it crashes on its own? (Not in 3.5.9 konq, anyway...)
Comment 2 Stephan Buehne 2008-07-03 21:20:07 UTC
Hmm,
I see the error "Speicherzugriffsfehler" when starting konqueror in a terminal window.
I have also removed all plugins, konqeror is still crashing. Is there a debug version I can ran, to get more informational output?
Comment 3 Christophe Marin 2008-07-04 16:18:24 UTC
Well, since Konqueror 3 isn't supported anymore(*), I don't know if it would be very useful.

Anyway, you can install the debug packages and try to get a backtrace. Instructions are on the following page :
 http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

(*) (Except for critical bugs)
Comment 4 Stephan Buehne 2008-07-08 21:54:10 UTC
I have reproduced the peoblem with the latest 4.1beta version. It seems to be related to the netscape flash plugin. Here is the trace generated:

With gdb I get the following output:

Comment 5 Maksim Orlovich 2008-07-08 22:32:11 UTC
Thanks for the debug output. That gives quite a bit of info, actually (unfortunately not info I can do much with myself immediately, but at least I know who to hassle).

Could you please do one more thing, though: ldd your libQtCore.so.4.4 and see if it links to glib?
Comment 6 Stephan Buehne 2008-07-09 09:33:17 UTC
Hi,
here the requested information:

ldd libQtCore.so.4.4
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xb7fd4000)
        libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0xb7dd3000)
        librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0xb7dca000)

Seli: this only appears to happen with your glib event pump (not Qt's) so could you perhaps take a look? #164984 suggests it's reproducible on nvidia.com w/9.0.124...

Comment 11 Rui G. 2008-07-30 18:07:49 UTC
The bug I marked as duplicate crashes in some distros in http://www.ibm.com . Maybe someone else can reproduce the bug in that site ( just loading will do ). I could only reproduce it in Kubuntu 8.04.1 but I can't generate a backtrace.
Comment 12 Christopher Sawyer 2008-07-30 21:17:26 UTC
You have to move your mouse over the flash ad on www.ibm.com to get Konq to crash. I'm getting this on OpenSUSE 11.0 /w KDE 4.1
Comment 13 Maksim Orlovich 2008-07-30 22:22:25 UTC
The distribution matters here because different distros build Qt differently:
some build w/glib event loop, some with internal ones. In the latter case, nspluginviewer does its own glib event loop integration --- which is the case which seems to crash.
Comment 14 Christopher Sawyer 2008-07-31 23:58:02 UTC
On OpenSuSE 11 distros:

ldd libQtCore.so.4.4
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0xb7e0b000)
        librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0xb7e02000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7dea000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xb7de6000)
        libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb7cf5000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xb7ccf000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb7cc1000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7b7e000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb800b000)
