Version: (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources freeze on KDE logout when some app quit confirmation pending 100% reproduceable Steps: run KDE run Kate type something minimize KMenu -> Leave -> Shutdown notice the Kate taskbar entry flashes several times wait a second OK, KDE is frozen
Hm, I cannot reproduce this. I notice that the Kate taskbar entry flashes several times, but plasma is still responsive, I can restore the kate window and decide what to do with my files. If I choose to abort closing Kate I even get a passive notification that my shutdown has been canceled by Kate, which I find a nice touch. Compiled from sources at rev825844, about three days ago.
I noticed this behaviour about ~5 days ago (I use KDE4Daily). If the Kate window is maximized, no problem. But with minimized it behaves (for me) as described above. I don't know if is important: unlocked mode, focus policy: focus follows mouse.
Nope, no luck reproducing even with focus follows mouse turned on (how can you use that without going insane? ;) and widgets unlocked. When the window is not minimized can you still interact with the panel normally? ie is the panel just generally freezing after logout has been pressed or is the minimized window particularly relevant for the issue?
this sounds more like a kwin issue? where a window that is minimized pops up a state saving dialog on logout, and kwin isn't popping the application forward? is this plausible, Lubos?
> focus follows mouse turned on (how can you use that without going insane? ;) Without raising of course :-) It is the only true way :-D > When the window is not minimized can you still interact with the panel > normally? Not really, it looks like KDE is in mode that it only waits for input from if I want to discard changes, save them or cancel. Btw. just for test, I minimized the window and KDE was frozen. Now, I am wondering if this is real freeze -- because I couldn't interact with the panel or everything else, Kate has focus, and I cannot maximize Kate because it is minimized, so there is no window for it. Ha! I was able to press win+tab (task switch) I get the confirmation dialog (Kate still minimized), I clicked on "cancel quit" and KDE is back to life.
PS. So it is rather major bug, not as sewere as crash.
Confirmed with trunk from yesterday. What I did; 1. Open Kate, change some text 2. logout 3. taskbar-item flashes, the "save changes?" dialog doesn't popup but plasma is still working perfect (aka non-blocking) 4. alt+tab and the "save changes?" dialog is displayed, choose "abort logout" 5. try to logout again (kate minimized and still in modified state) 6. taskbar-item flashes again but this time whole plasma blocks (icons on desktop, taskbar-item, cashew, etc.) 7. alt+tab does show the "save changes?" dialog again and choosing "abort logout" again does unblock. compared to Maciej I don't have the "strange" focus-follows-mouse activated ;)
btw, that was Kate from KDE3.
Cannot reproduce with both KDE3 and KDE4 versions of Kate in latest trunk. Can anyone else still reproduce this bug?
