Version:           1.9.9 (using 3.5.9, Debian Package 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4 (lenny/sid))
Compiler:          Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-1-686

I use IMAP together with gmail and Kmail. My settings are as gmail recommends. On startup, Kmail (embedded in Kontact) works as expected. But, as new gmail arrives, Kmail does not update either automatically or manually.

It works totally fine for me in kde 4.2.68 (and 4.2.x where x<68).

You should think to update to kmail 1.11.x.
