Version: (using Devel) Installed from: Compiled sources When someone sends you a web link, Kopete shows a KIO progress dialog before showing the messaging, and try to contact the remote web server to do something I ignore (I suppose check if it's an image to display it embedded, for example). This leads to general slowness/unnecesary net traffic: maybe I don't want to contact that web server. Moreover, it could be used as a vector for DoS attack. Imagine flooding someone with a non-existent URL.
I don't like problem (KIO dialog) too, but if you dont want this, just disable 'show image in chat' plugin... :-) But it was great, if can kopete check if it's image on background... (just low priority and no kio dialog)
Maybe it's a stupid workaround, but how about checking the extension in the link (.png, .jpg, .jpeg etc) and then try to retrieve the remote URL only if it's an image, so we can have inline images and no KIO dialogs.
KIO Dialog is not shown here (show image in chat - plugin is active) Kopete 0.50.80, Kde 4.0.99, Suse 11
Same here: show image plugin works without showing KIO dialog. Kopete 0.50.80 from KDE 4.1 RC1 Kubuntu packages
