Description Bassio 2008-06-29 01:22:20 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.83)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

As an icon is added or removed to the system tray, white thin rectangular artifacts appear on both sides of the icons (or only the icon added sometimes) as the panel presumably refreshes or something

This is a regression, since it was not happening in KDE 4.0.5
Comment 1 Bassio 2008-06-29 01:24:33 UTC
I also want to add that the tray is working perfect and fine, and functionality is preserved and icons are all there with no anomalies

so it is only a matter of paint
Comment 2 Thomas Georgiou 2008-07-05 23:53:08 UTC
Are you using nvidia drivers?
Comment 3 Bassio 2008-07-06 02:49:52 UTC
Yes Sir.

I hope this is not the problem though.

This problem was not there when I was on KDE 4.0.5 .. and appeared when I upgraded to 4.1 .. perhaps making it a sort of regression in my case

I also did not change the nvidia driver I had.
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-07-06 23:24:13 UTC
can you attach a screenshot of the problem, please? thanks..
Comment 5 Bassio 2008-07-07 03:05:25 UTC
Unfortunately, it also seems that this thing does not appear on taking a screenshot.

For your sake, I describe it as white vertical-rectanglish sometimes squarish artifacts that appears at the side of the icons when the system tray is refreshed. Sometimes, at startup, for example - when like 4 icons are loaded a big squarish one which covers most of one the icons appear.

The soon disappear when everything becomes stable and only to reappear when an icon is a added or removed from the tray.

sounds like a up of bug #158094

Confirmed.

I reverted to non-nvidia drivers .. the problem persists.

This is not an nvidia issue.
Comment 9 Jason Stubbs 2008-07-08 03:36:47 UTC
Are you talking about a flicker of white when the icon appears? Or does the white persist?
Comment 10 Bassio 2008-07-08 05:15:06 UTC
No. It is a flicker that only appears as the tray gets refreshed when an icon is added or removed .. then they disappear. This explains why I could not get a screenshot.

perhaps similar to here http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=163353

but not a flicker but squarish and rectangularish artifacts .. very noticeable.

It could be an nvidia issue, although last night I formatted my HD and reinstalled Kubuntu and did not install the NVIDIA proprietary drivers this time .. but still it persists. Last night, when I reinstalled Kubuntu (with KDE 4.0) this problem was not there!! It only appeared when I upgraded to the KDE 4.1 beta 2
Comment 11 Jason Stubbs 2008-07-08 05:29:55 UTC
It's changes to the layouting algorithm and actual systray embed timings.
Comment 12 Emmanuel Surleau 2008-07-17 07:58:31 UTC
I have a similar issue on my system (except that it can also be black artifacts or even odd bits of color). See attached screenshot.

Hi!

Same problem here.

I'm using Version 4.1.00 (KDE 4.0.99 (4.1 RC1+)) from Debian
experimental, the intel driver and kwin effects turned off .

Thanks.

I'm seeing this also with trunk (today's build). Radeon driver but no composite enabled.

Guys, you even have black-backgrounded Icons in the system tray, in the screenshot, that you put into 4.1.1 announce..

Please go and see yourself:
http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.1/screenshots/desktop.png

Some icons, like "Battery" or "Recently Plugged" are good there[I believe, those ones, that are SVG], but the rest ones, like "Network Manager", KMix, Klipboard, etc. -- all have black background, where Transparent pixels should be..
