for whatever reason, all the Places entries on your computer have been removed. note that this is shared between the file dialog and dolphin as well.

Dear Aaron,
thank you for your continued contributions.
Your innovations are revolutionary.

By the way, if places were removed, then this happened in the course of upgrade to 4.1 beta 2 from 4.0.5 on the ubuntu packages kde-members

However, although the places may have been worn out as you say - but at least my logical drives haven't, and they are still displayed in the dolphin sidebar and the file dialog.

This used to show a nice list of logical partitions with a neighbouring cute indicator of free space in the kickoff section mentioned.

So what is the case here?

Note: I noticed something weird that also happened as I upgraded from 4.0.5 to the beta 2: my logical drives now appear constantly in the 'drives recently plugged in' widget .. although they are not removable drives- alongside my USB pen drives!!! I guess this has to do with this problem.

I tell you this was not the case with 4.0.

Pardon Aaron, I will reopen this again, just in case if something happened with how kde 4.1 treats logical partitions.

If not, then probably something messed with my fstabs file. I'll go check.

well, i don't know what happened to the places on your system, but we did indeed remove the non-hotplugged devices from kickoff. it now just tracks whatever is in the places model rather than show things like all your available partitions.
