Description Ladislav Nesnera 2008-06-28 22:00:21 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux

It would be fine to make HowTo describing right way how upgrade to 4.1 KDEPIM. (I have problem to preserve my filters, mail composer settings etc.)

Right, there is no HowTo at the moment.

In short, the Kontact settings are stored in $HOME/.kde/share/apps/ and $HOME/.kde/share/config/

The relevant config files are kmailrc, korganizerrc, etc.
Same with the application directories, there is a kmail dir, a korganizer dir and so on.

Simply copy these files to your new .kde directory (some distributions use .kde4 for that now). That should do the trick.

There are some update scripts which should run automatically and update the config files to the KDE4 format (after that, you can't use Kontact from KDE3 with those config files).

Hope that helps.

Thanks. It works fine but I moved my ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail folder to ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail/mail previously. It was reason why I had to change parameter "folders" in kmailrc to new place (folders=$HOME/.kde4/share/apps/kmail/mail) after copying.

In newer version of KMail (>=1.9.52), this even happens automatically.

Instead of a HowTo, it should be identified exactly what is not imported from KDE 3.x to KDE 4.x and individual bugs filed on each. The move should be automatic, not manual.
