Description x.para 2008-06-26 22:04:38 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
OS: Linux

Not more to say on top of my summary. The process of installation does not break and widgets that are installed from the internet are marked as installed but not visible in add new widgets dialog.

I'm having the same issue. Compiled sources from 3 days ago.
Comment 2 prasadae 2008-07-21 05:45:08 UTC
The same thing happens to me on KDE 4.0.98 on OpenSuse 11.0 and fedora 9.
And the same thing happens to Login Manager themes. I would not generally mention this, but I feel that they are connected to the same engine.

Comment 5 Dominik Tritscher 2008-07-29 17:48:38 UTC
Basically, I can confirm that behaviour. The cause seems to be, that the plasmoids on kde-look.org are only provided as source code, not as plasmagik packages.
The applet installer should check the package format and give a user response.
Comment 6 prasadae 2008-07-29 21:07:44 UTC
If that is the problem, instead of plasma checking the type, can kde-look have a separate repository just for plasmagik packages? That should make things easier for the plasma devs.

Is there a tool available which can take the source, compile it and finally package as a plasmagik? That should lure the plasmoid contributors in creating plasmagiks.

I have the same trouble.
Comment 10 Rami 2008-08-04 14:14:25 UTC
Confirmed, kde 4.1
Comment 11 Ferdinand 2008-08-05 01:36:37 UTC
Same problem here, i'm using KDE 4.1 on Debian experimental.

In the .xsession-errors log:
Installation of /tmp/kde-ferdinand///78061-plasma-applet-quicklauncher-0.3.tar.gz failed.
Comment 12 Frank Schaefer 2008-08-06 12:49:41 UTC
Yes, the same problem with 4.1 and openSUSE 11.0. One of the main features of KDE4 is still not working...
Even if it is a problem of kde-look.org, the installer should not report success ! Coming from the other side: in which case will the installation process fail ? ;-)
Comment 13 H.H. 2008-08-22 22:27:46 UTC
I agree. Better not offer such a feature, if it does not work. This is one of the features many new user will try first! This is known since kde-4.0.
