Description Laurent Claessens 2008-06-24 20:23:15 UTC
Version: (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (hardy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu

Hello

My girlfrien has an user case.

1. She tries to extract a dvd
2. In the precess, she got out of memory (/home is full); the filefilm.iso.partial stays
3. she trashed it
4. She did not empty her trash
5. reboot

BANG !

It does not more reconnect. I had to go to tty1 to understand the problem and solve it by removing the files by hand in
~/.local/share/Trash/files and ~/.local/share/Trash/info

I think that

1. At the moment to disconnect to KDE, the system has to warn that there is no more free memory in you /home and that the user would be probably no more be able to reconnect if he does not remove some files.

2. When the connection fails for that reason, it has to say the reason.
I remember that, when the connection is impossible due to permission problem on the home directory, the system warns explicitly. Should be the same when the reason is lack of free memory ...

3. Maybe, if it cannot connect the user, it can launch a very light cession intended to allow the user to remove heavy useless files in a graphical way.

It is not really a crash, for the final user, it is the worse crash possible : no way to reconnect.

Have a nice day
