The sound is played just for half a second or so.

What log files are useful?

I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card.

I can confirm the issue as well. Phonon in general has no problem with the soundfile so I'm assuming a bug in knotify. When does NotifyBySound::close(int id) get called? The first sound that gets played initializes the Backend and creates the first stream, so the delay from that might be the reason that a call to close stops the sound?

I can confirm this on FreeBSD with KDE 4.1.0 as well. It seems rather hit-n-miss here, sometimes the music is cut off immediately, or sometimes a bit later in the clip. However, it does cut it off at some point.

I can confirm this as well. (kde trunk version, at the moment the date is 16/10/2008)
Sometimes it plays longer than others, but never complete.
