Description Gerhard Hoogterp 2008-06-22 22:39:43 UTC
Version: 0.12.7 (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (hardy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-19-generic

The one thing that kept me from staying with Kopete over Psi is the fact that it forces me into chat mode.
I don't want to chat (have IRC for that whenever needed) I want to see a message alert (systray), read, reply and get the window out of my face.
The same for clicking a contact, I would like it to default to "single message" and not to chat.

The way ICQ and Psi do. All the other bells and wishles in kopete are fun and some of them are quite useful, but as the most basic communication doesn't work for me...

Anhow, the first part would be an option "send and close" to tie to the enter/cntr-enter shortcut. The later, as the function is there already, would be a swich to defaul the mouseclick to it.

Regretfully it doesn't seem the be possible to redefine the actions of mouse-buttons in KDE (yet, or I missed it.. always possible..)

Thanks

AFAIK this is already there: "Configure Kopete..."->"Chat"->"Interface Preference" and then try to select the email view plugin.

Not completely. The sending part (I click a contact for a message) does indeed give me a single message window. But the moment a message comes in I'm back in chat mode. I would still like to have the option to accept the single messagem, reply and get the window out of the way..

But thanks for the pointer. Part of my problem is solved now..

Any chance that you are using jabber?
The jabber protocol chooses the interface according to the received jabber message type. So, if someone sends you a jabber chat message, you will get the chat window. When using, e.g., ICQ, you will get the email interface. At least I get this one if a miranda user sends me a message and I configured kopete as described in Comment #1. Then, the "chat" is closed immediately after me sending a reply, i.e., hitting return.

Yes, but then again, so I was with Psi for example which had an option to
overrule this behavior and just force things into message format.

Anyhow, I don't think having different behavior depending on the protocol is
good. After all that's not why I use a multi-protocol client. One interface,
one behavior.

I quickly checked (my wife still has ICQ on her machine) and indeed, replying
to her message works the way I like.. Now make it possible to standardize
over protocols. Or all in chat OR all in message.. Preferable as a
user-setting..

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
