It seems that motif/cde stiles are directly developed by trolltech. I've added qt-bugs@trolltech.com on CC.
Qt Software support have reproduced the instance. They suspect that this is an issue with how KDE makes this list widget, and uses color schemes.
This is a problem in KPageDialog's listview. Other QListView show a correct dark background color for the selected item.

The same problem is in many other places, for example in the plugin selector. This bug should be left open until all those places are fixed.
I can confirm that this bug does still occur in the plugin selector in 4.6.2, should this be moved to another component?
Is this still a problem with a recent version of Plasma 5?
