Description Maciej Pilichowski 2008-06-18 19:55:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.82)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

default run: anonymous plasmoid on desktop

I just moved .kde4 dir to avoid crash (reported) so now I have default settings for KDE4. Ok, first run, I get some rectangle plasmoid in left corner (empty). Well, I don't know what it is so how about finding out.
Add widget and... no plasmoid present.

Bug -> "add widget" should list all plasmoids added (no matter how/when).

It is the "desktop folder" plasmoid which show files on your ~/Desktop folder. It is wanted.
It is strange that "add widget" doesn't list anything. Probably a packaging bug. Don't worry.
Comment 3 Maciej Pilichowski 2008-06-18 22:37:06 UTC
Hmm, you sure packaging (like deb packaging) has something to do with it?

The widget is on the desktop, add widgets should simply list it. The list is not hardcoded in some package, but created dynamically while working.

( To reproduce rename .kde4 to .kde4~ (for example) in text console mode and run KDE )

I know. With a clean user account the widget list is ok.
Comment 5 Anne-Marie Mahfouf 2008-06-19 08:40:42 UTC
Well I think we have a regression as I don't have the red minus either.
With clean plasma*rc files, I can see the minus sign when I add new widgets but as soon as I reopen the Add Widgets dialog they are gone. So the Applet Browser does not display existing applets at start.

You should open a new bug for the folder-view plasmoid not showing anything, I agree it's confusing if it's just empty, and I'm in favor of adding some text (so the user at least knows what the heck is that rectangle).
This will be for 4.2 though, because of string freeze.
Comment 7 Maciej Pilichowski 2008-06-19 16:28:45 UTC
Riccardo, the problem is not the empty folder-view plasmoid (for me) but the "empty" add-widget dialog -- this is what confuses me. And I cannot post any report about this plasmoid because it was empty since I remember so don't know what I am missing.

True about some label, I'll post report in a second.
