Version: (using KDE 4.0.82) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages because you can configure everything else, even menu entries except for the style. Another story if putting it to the context menu is a good move -- I would add it now rather to settings of KMenu. This way the menu would be less cluttered.
i agree; the entire way this menu switching is done is an abomination, really. it's actually creating another applet (!) an replacing itself, which is at least in part why it's in the context menu (easier to accomplish there). really, it ought to be two different applets with the difference being what the starting default is.
bug #164040 has the same root problem.

Does this boil down to "split "application launcher style kickoff" and "classic kickoff style" into separate plasmoids?
Not sure if this is related but it would be nice if this right click change was a little more generic. Since the plasmoids have a category and some categories tend towards a single use plasmoid having a right click option that would give a choice of anything within that option would be friendly. Currently if you want to switch between Kickoff and Classic it's two steps. To switch to anything else it's somehwere between 5 & 6 steps depending on how it's done.
Hello! This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
