Version: (using KDE 4.0.82) First of all: yes, the size is useful, but the Konsole is part of KDE family, so it should respect SS settings. And it does not. This is bug. Which leads us to solution of fixing this: please provide separate option in Konsole. Show size: respect SS, disabled, enabled and if show size is enabled, please show it in characters (of terminal, not window!), not in pixels, because for console it is meaningless.
Hi Maciej, I don't understand this report at all. Were you trying to reply to a different bug report?
> and if show size is enabled, please show it in characters > (of terminal, not window!), not in pixels, because for console > it is meaningless. The "Size: <Columns> x <Lines>" box which appears when resizing the display is given in terminal characters, not pixels.
ad.#2 -- true, sorry, I have too tiny pixels (so even small movement causes change in characters even) ad.#1 -- in systemsettings there is option for showing size, no matter what I set, konsole shows the size info I think there should be relevant option in Konsole for it, because user explictly said she/he would like to have size info turned off
> ad.#1 -- in systemsettings there is option for showing size, Where? I think you're referring to a KWin option, that isn't related to the terminal size display in Konsole.
But it occurs when you resize the window -- in SS user says "I don't want see geometry while resizing". And in Konsole you see it, despite the settings. I know that is another kind of geometry, nevertheless there should be an option for it to make it "compatible" with SS.
> nevertheless there should be an option for it to make it "compatible" with SS. No, the options serve different needs. Some (mainly older) terminal applications rely on having terminal windows of a certain character size. Some users like their terminals to be a certain size fixed size (typically 80x40 or 132x40). This is a requirement which is specific to the terminal. I'm not sure who exactly wants to see the pixel geometry of every window when it is resized but I certainly do not.
Robert, (1st paragraph) -- true, on other hand for several years I had no need to know the size in characters of the terminal, because apps I use didn't need that. The same goes for window size. And if somebody wants to have terminal at fixed sized, showing him/her size when resizing does not help too much, right? But I agree that it might be needed. Anyway, such option is really needed to be "compatible" with SS. Thank you in advance.
> Anyway, such option is really needed to be "compatible" with SS. Thank you in advance. As I said before I disagree as they are unrelated options which are there to serve different needs.
