Description Jonas Vejlin 2008-06-03 09:04:04 UTC
Version:           0.6.80 (using 4.00.80 (KDE 4.0.80 >= (KDE 4.1 Beta1), Debian packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.25-2-amd64

I tried to print an doc file from Okular, but the printer does not start printing. I then I visit http://localhost:631/jobs and can see that cup has not resived the job (it is empty)

Which Qt version are you using?
Comment 2 Jonas Vejlin 2008-06-03 14:40:23 UTC
Since I am running kde 4.0.80 I think (not sure) it must be QT 4.4. Does it make a different?
Comment 3 Pino Toscano 2008-06-06 22:42:17 UTC
Uhm.. is the print dialog listing correctly your printer(s)?
I mean, check that for each printer its type and description really are relative to them, and not "print to local file".
Comment 4 Jonas Vejlin 2008-06-07 06:52:46 UTC
The dialog is showing the printer correctly. I dont know if it is a cupsys bug or KDE bug so if noone can reproduce it it must be an error on cups or my persenel settings
Comment 5 Martin Droessler 2008-06-22 11:47:39 UTC
I have the same problem, when trying to print a pdf.
The problem in this case is indeed, that it tells me "Address: local file".
But how can I change this?
In the printer-properties I can only change the page-layout.

@comment #5:
your problem is bug #162793, reported to us but really a Qt bug.
Comment 7 Pino Toscano 2008-08-05 20:10:09 UTC
Hello Jonas,

do you still have this problem, even with a more recent version of Qt or Okular?
Comment 8 Jonas Vejlin 2008-08-06 08:59:03 UTC
I have re-tested today an it seems that the problem has gone
Comment 9 Juha Tuomala 2008-08-06 18:42:44 UTC
fedora 9 here with kde 4.1, printing doesn't work. konqueror prints just fine.
Comment 10 Juha Tuomala 2008-08-06 18:44:29 UTC
qt-4.4.0-16.fc9.x86_64
Comment 11 Pino Toscano 2008-08-06 18:55:46 UTC
@Juha:

> "printing doesn't work."

there are already bugs opened about "non working" printing; if you could explain better what "does not work" means for you, we can see what is the right bug.

Comment 12 Paul van Erk 2008-09-11 08:46:39 UTC
I'm experiencing the same problem (shows printer selected, says local file). This is, however, not just Okular, but any KDE printing dialog. The bigger problem is that you cannot even print PDF files, because then you cannot change it back and forward. I'll attach a small video to demonstrate (2,5MB).
Comment 13 Paul van Erk 2008-09-11 08:53:31 UTC
Oops, too big file. Here we go: http://www.parena.net/temp/bugs.kde.org-163117-printingdialog.avi

Excuse the Nvidia beta driver choppyness.

This is KDE 4.1.1 (openSUSE Factory), but this has been a problem longer.

So, we need kpdf for printing PDF's. :/
Comment 14 Pino Toscano 2008-09-11 10:13:21 UTC
@Paul van Erk (comment #13 and #14):
your problem is not this one, but bug #162793.
Comment 15 Paul van Erk 2008-09-11 11:12:54 UTC
Hadn't found it, thanks. Hopefully openSUSE Factory will start using Qt-4.4.1 soon. :/
Comment 16 Brad Hards 2008-11-29 04:48:29 UTC
I'm not sure what is left to do on this bug. Are we still waiting for Juha to explain "printing doesn't work"?
Comment 17 Paul van Erk 2008-11-30 00:48:55 UTC
I think it should be closed, as the bug was in QT, not KDE, and it has been fixed in 4.4.1.
Comment 18 Juha Tuomala 2008-12-01 01:29:54 UTC
Hey, yes, it has started to print again. Thanks!
Comment 19 Brad Hards 2008-12-01 01:35:15 UTC
WORKSFORME, and WORKSFORJUHA.
