Version: (using Devel) Compiler: GCC 4.2-24 OS: Linux The taskbar thumbnail (Kwin compositing effect) is not working although it's activated and the other 3D effects seem to be okay. I am using an nVidia GeForce 6600 LE card with driver version 169.12.

I'm not aware of any change in KWin and this used to work, so I except this got broken in Plasma.
I confirm this issue: I have an nVidia 7500 LE and I don't get the taskbar thumbnails, whereas the other effects seem to work well
Tooltips are currently disabled in 4.1/trunk. The thumbnails are contained in the tooltips, so there are no thumbnails either.

hi Bobby, not for 4.1 since we are in feature-freeze mode and only fix crave bugs now (iirc there was even a bugreport that was reporting performance-problems with thumbnails enabled. So by enabling them again we would probably introduce new problems). But I assume they will reappear at 4.2 (though that's only a guess from me :)

Please don't understand my statement as an accusation but the performance problem caused by enabled thumbnail was known since 4.0, which was shipped 6 months ago. I can use compiz-fusion yes, but it's not the same as using native KWin effects. Of course I am happy for the performance boast, for folder view, the other new features and above all for a very stable plasma, which I am sure was a lot of work but there is still a tiny amount of disappointment that some nice little things are still missing. I promise to be patent and faithful though ;)
Taskbar thumbnails are back in 4.2
