Description Mr. Wep 2008-05-29 23:27:59 UTC
Version: Who knows, I probably can't get to that as it crashes, it must be something designed primarily for KDE 3.5, it's a stable release, probably latest ubuntu package. (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
Compiler: I thought packages were precompiled
OS: Linux

First of all, I'm sorry to have stated the bug is in Kontact - the problem is probably in KOrganizer. During the wizard I tried several things and came to this conclusion.
I've been using Kontact for a few months now and everything seemed fine. One day, all of a sudden, when I wanted to start it, it just crashed. And wouldn't start again.
Other applications worked seperatly - e.g. Kmail, Basket.
I tried reinstalling - no difference, then I tried removing the ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer directory and - heureka! - Kontact (and KOrganizer) would start again. But unfortunately this is not a solution - I do not have all my calendar data in KOrganizer.
I then tried just copying the backup instead of the default *.ics file = crash on startup, importing using the GUI = crash on startup, and only ToDos were imported.
Adding events in the clean calendar seems to work.
This is the backtrace:

If you need anything more, please ask. I'd love to get back to my nicely organised calendar...

Regards,
Mr. Wep

this is probably the binary attachment bug in the 3rd party ical library.

search in your calendar for an event or to-do with a binary attachment
and remove that attachment. hope that helps
Comment 2 Mr. Wep 2008-05-30 15:28:33 UTC
OK, thanks for the tip, I imported the calendar into Sunbird which seems not to handle attachments, exported back and it works again. Although I don't remember adding attachments to my events, probably I just wanted to try it out to see what it does at the beginning, but why would have this occurred now? Well it works for now and I don't really need attachments. Looking forward to see what the new Kontact in KDE 4.1 will have to offer.
Thanks once more,
Mr. Wep
