Version: (using KDE 3.5.9) Installed from: SuSE RPMs Double LMB and triple LMB is not easy to perform (even for me :-), 3xLMB). If KDE could offer modifiers, let's say F1 and F2 (configurable) user could press F2, click once LMB and voila -- whole line selected. Much more reliable and not that frustrating.
Additional note -- with modifiers it would be possible to get new functions, like "select quote", "select sentence", "select paragraph". Those would be really nice, "smart" features, it would be faster to use modifier+mouse then manually select such part.
F1 is help, F2 is edit -- function keys are already much used. Selecting a line in a multiline text edit widget is as simple as Home;Shift+End, selecting a sentence is Home;Shift+Down etc. Those are standard shortcuts, everyone knows them. If a function key changed the meaning of the next click, how would anyone figure out that hidden feature? I'm not convinced.
F1, F2 are of course _examples_. * -- started from here, | selection boundaries SELECTING SENTENCE TEST: Selecting a line in a multiline text edit widget is as simple as |Home*;Shift+End, | selecting a sentence is Home;Shift+Down etc. Those are standard shortcuts, everyone knows them. Hmm, it is not a sentence if you ask me. a) with _single_ keystroke I would be able to select paragraph/line/sentence, it would boost any editing ad.a) it would be relief for people with RSI or other disabilities (especially when you use non-ergonomic keyboard, all those "fast" shortcuts causes a lot of strain for me; I have RSI) ad.a) since it would be an action (atomic), not a combination of sub-actions, you could add those to menus, toolbars, etc. b) it would work, because those can be independent each from other
One another thing, consider hello world try to (quickly) select "hello" using keyboard. Currently it is a lot of work to do this, it is killing fast with mouse though. This is another proof how important those shortcuts are (and useful).
Hi, kdelibs (version 4 and earlier) is no longer maintained since a few years. KDE Frameworks 5 or 6 might already have implemented this wish. If not, please re-open against the matching framework if feasible or against the application that shows the issue. We then can still dispatch it to the right Bugzilla product or component. Greetings Christoph Cullmann
