[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] local socket error: QLocalSocket::PeerClosedError [/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] "/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub(21393)" Error in thread 47624094032240 : "Command timed out." sounds like the nepomukserver doesn't start up or hangs. May you like to ttach your /home/kde4/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc file to have more possibilities to get an idea why only a gray background got displayed. Thanks in advance.

In the moment plasma crashes but after login there is only the menu icon and the device plasmoid on the panel gone.
Dorian, sts, can you get a backtrace after the crash with the debug packages installed please? Also as Sebastian said, can you attach your /home/kde4/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc Thanks in advance!

Unless either of you can reproduce the crash, I think we'll have to close this as WORKSFORME. With the current level of info we have, there isn't really any chance of it being fixed, except by accident (as it may well have been already). Re-open if you get it again, but running with debug packages helps a lot with helping us fix crashes.
Plasma crashed in KDE 4.1, too and I get only gray screen. I'm using Kubuntu Intrepid.
