After enabling drop shadows (xcompmgr -c is sufficient), you'll get them also in every menu and context menu. The only exception are the ones of plasma, the context menus (Desktop and Panel) as well as Kickoff and the classical application launcher.

i have shadows on now and it works nicely, even with plasma menus.
