Version: 1.9.6 (using KDE 3.5.8) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux Emails often consist of a name and the actual email address enclosed in < >. Sometimes the name part is changed but the email address is still the same. If I try to add the new name complete with the same email address to my address book it fails because the address book only seems to check against the part in < >. The filter on the other hand uses the entire thing name included so if set up to root mail from a particular person to some folder and the name part changes it doesn't go there. eg J L Smith < jlsmith@somewhere.com> might be changed to Jacob Smith < jlsmith@somewhere.com> Address book says they are the same, filters say they are different. I think that this would be cured by only checking on the < > part and allowing different names against an email address in the address book. You no doubt will feel differently but the ability to check that an email address is actually in my address book is an extremely useful facility.Any other approach I can think of will wreck that. John I suspect this all applies to all versions
That's about it really other than a simple resolution that might even be preferable to some is to restrict the filters and the check into the address book to just the actual email address enclosed in < >.
Why not use only the email address on the filter? If you filter: "J L Smith < jlsmith@somewhere.com>" and the name has been changed to "Something Else < jlsmith@somewhere.com>", it is right that the filter fails. Moreover, when you create a filter on the "From" field, the filter uses only the email. This seems not a real problem IMHO.
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
