Description Praedor Tempus 2008-05-23 14:44:16 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
Compiler: na not self compiled
OS: Linux

I picked kmail simply because that is where I first began seeking a means of altering its appearance, but it could apply to almost all kde apps. I like using a semi-transparent konsole and a translucent kmenu. It would be nice if kmail (and konq, etc, etc) were able to be set similarly. I would like to either provide a different background for kmail (like with konqueror file manager) OR be able to set kmail to be transparent, like konsole. Along with this should be sets of pre-selected font colors that the user can go with. If one is using a dark background desktop, for instance, one might select "transparent kmail", adjust the level of opaqueness, and then select a set of fonts "light fonts for dark background" (for instance) that would work with that combo. If one has a light desktop, then one would choose "dark fonts for light background". This derives from the problems with transparent konsole fonts not being compatible with certain combinations of background combined with transparency.

I think this is doable now with kwin composing effects - if not file a bug to kwin
