Description Ayden Beeson 2008-05-15 11:41:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.4)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS: Linux

Using a Dell laptop, after putting the laptop on the dock, and using the native resolution of another monitor (1280X1024), the plasma workspace (widgets and background) does not size back up to 1680X1050 for the native resolution of the monitor.

The workspace covers 1280 of the screen, and the last 400 pixels are then duplicated back on top of the left side of the workspace.

This also results in multiple widget control things (sorry i dont know the real name) in the top right corner of both desktops.

The panel (on the bottom like default) is the correct size, and when opening the dashboard, the widgets that are active then move to the correct location, but the background and layers stay where they are, and then closing the dashboard puts them back to where they were (which is the right place if that section of the desktop was where it should be, but it isnt)

I will try to attach a screenshot.

Also if i then manually resize the resolution to 1280X1024 (not native) the workspace is then correct again.

It has no issue when shrinking the resolution, it just adjusts as it should, but then trying to up it again fails with this problem.

This does not seem to be an xorg issue as the panel etc are perfect.

I'm currently running Kubuntu 8.04, but i also encountered this problem with Fedora 9 Beta.

I'm running Compiz on this machine, but was not running any effects at all on the FC9 beta install, and had the same problem.

Thanks guys, P.S. this is my first bug report so excuse me if i forget something / badly word something!

It also seems to be drawing different layers, as when you move a widget from the left side to try to move it onto the right, it goes under the background etc.

The screen as it draws when using 1280X1024

This shows the proper workspace at 1280X1024

I should also say that this is a change of resolution while x is not running, it is shutting down at 1280X1024 and then starting back up at 1680X1050

This what it looks like after it starts up at 1680 X 1050

I had to convert the PNG to JPEG due to size, tell me if it is not clear.

I would like to add that I am experiencing the exact same problem as Ayden on the Dell D830 as well under Kubuntu 8.04 on 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.

On setting resolution back to the laptops native 1680x1024, kde draws the taskbar and resolution correctly as it should with the background wallpaper and the widget layer being the only noticeable difference (that I have noticed). I am running compiz and all features work perfectly except for this one annoyance.

this works properly in 4.1 now.
