Description Jonathan Jesse 2008-04-29 23:13:10 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Running Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 4 installed. My wife was working on uploading a document and was told to click on "browse" to find the file. There is no "browse" button, just the icon of a folder. The text needs to match what is happening in the window. If there is going to be no browse button, then just change the text to "click on the folder to browse" or something better gramicially that accurately describes what is happening.

The problem is websites tell users to click "Browse" but in konq4 the
traditional Browse button has been replaced with a folder. More of a usability
bug.

Confirmed also in konqueror 4.1rc1.

What could make it a very good point in usability (in this case, with compatiliby with other browsers) is to draw the browse icon and also draw over it the translated word "Browse..".

We're not going to use non-standard widgets because websites make assumptions like this.

Just to make clear the website listed is not the only one that asks for a browse button. A vast majority of websites still reference a browse button and the people that I have installed KDE on have always looked for a browse button instead of the folder icon. i think this issue needs to be dealt with and is still a problem.
