Version: (using KDE 3.5.8) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Kopete crashes when I open a chat with a specific person on my list. It is clearly because of the History Plugin overloading. The cause is the History Plugin, however. a identical crash occurs when I right-click him and press 'View History'. But only when I press on one of the chatting session's history I get a crash(only the history of one session cause the crash). Note however, when I disable the History Plugin and open a chat with my friend, it works fine. I don't know if it is a spam-war or some very strange character in the logs that cripples Kopete, however, I would love to fish it out :). However I don't know where the log files are placed :'(. I'll gladly post it here (unless the logs contain something too personal (unlikely)). I use the Ubuntu distro, so where are the log files? Thanks in advance //Arash
You'll find the log files in ${KDEHOME}/share/apps/kopete/logs/ The logs are xml files, stored individually for protocol, person and month. For example, /home/myuser/.kde4/share/apps/kopete/logs/MSNProtocol/myuser@myprovider/anotheruser@hisprovider.200804.xml contains the log for my msn contact anotheruser@hisprovider for april this year. You can attach the log here or send it my way.
Created attachment 24538 [details] A chat log (.xml) causing crash The log causes mine Kopete to crash (or load forever). The log contains a spam war :p. I wouldn't download/check out the log. The problem is most likely that since Kopete is loading such a huge log-file it'll never stop the loading. Just in case you're certain you can't reproduce the bug you can test with mine log-file. 819.9 kB .xml file. Of course Kopete isn't made for spamming each other, but it shouldn't crash if you open a chat with one on your contact list. the chat-protocol was MSN, and I think it was a group-conversation.
I tested with Kopete 4.03 (Ubuntu packages and from SVN branches/4.0) and Kopete from SVN trunk. Although it takes somes seconds to load (one line is rather long in the file), all parse and display the log file fine (except that the long line gets cut off). Are you using a localised (non-english) version?
Kopete 0.12.7 from KDE 3.5.9 does hang though. I'll confirm this bug, though it might be QT related and I don't plan to investigate further as it will work in KDE 4.0 and later.
Thanks for the confirmation. I use the English version of Kopete.
We don't have manpower to fix KDE 3 bugs so I'm closing it as it works in KDE 4.
