Description Roman Odaisky 2008-04-09 13:34:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.9)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

It would be very helpful to see windows demanding attention, such as chat windows, on the taskbar of the current desktop even if they belong to another one. All the point of ‘demanding attention’ is lost if you’re unable to see them flash.

It does do this at the moment, it's just hard to see with the default theme. (The notified state used to be red, but now it similar to the task that has focus.)

I agree that a more obvious notification should be sought.

I mean windows _from other desktops_. If I set the taskbar to show only windows from the current one (which is the only sensible setting), then I can’t know when a window from another desktop needs attention. I can only see it when I switch to that other desktop.

For the moment I have simply configured KWin to show chat windows on all the desktops. But it would be much more convenient to have them on certain desktops with suitable sets of related windows and see the notifications regardless of which desktop happens to be current.

So, I suggest displaying windows that demand attention on the taskbar even if they don’t belong to the current desktop, and when clicked they should take the user to their home desktop.
