Description Nicolo' 2008-04-08 19:51:48 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-4.1.2
OS: Linux

using psi(a jabber client written in qt4) in kde4 with composite enable, the window became fully transparent if there are other windows opened in the desktop. Psi developers sayd this should be a bug of kde4 composite.
It is always reproducible, just:
1. run psi
2. for example,run konqueror
3. focus psi window.
it became fully transparent when it shuld not.

Works perfectly fine here. Does the same happen with Compiz? Are there any error messages?
Comment 2 Nicolo' 2008-04-11 14:13:41 UTC
I don't know, i don't have compiz installed.
There aren't any kind of error messages.
Can it be a video driver issue? I have a Nvidia device..

I have the same problem here on Gentoo ~amd64 with QT 4.4.0 and KDE SVN from last week. With Desktop Effects turned on the PSI window becomes invisible. If Shadows are also turned on one can still see the shadow of the window.

Interestingly, if I turn the Desktop Effects off and then back on the window will be visible until I minimze it and afterwards restore it.

The only error message I get is:
QObject: Do not delete object, 'unnamed', during its event handler!

Hmm... I also have the same problem; same setup -- AMD64 on Gentoo; but with the latest Emacs cvs snapshots.

I compile KDE from the SVN sources, all with debugfull. Any other information you may want that could help? I can reliably reproduce this.

I can confirm the problem with emacs, it works fine if you unfocus the windows but when its focused all I see is the window shadow.
Comment 6 Ismail Donmez 2008-06-17 07:21:20 UTC
To reproduce the bug just run kwin --replace in a Gnome session and all of the gnome apps go into shadows :)
Comment 7 Kelvie Wong 2008-07-17 01:29:34 UTC
The issue with Emacs still persists. I've been using emacs from a terminal for the last two months now (and I must say, I've grown fond of it there now as well). I have not seen this bug anywhere else, perhaps I should forward this to the emacs lists?

Any news on this?

Here using:

Qt: 4.4.3
KDE: 4.1.85 (KDE 4.1.85 (KDE 4.2 Beta2))
kdelibs svn rev. 899634 / kdebase svn rev. 899635
xorg-server 1.5.3
xf86-video-intel 2.4.3
intel-dri 7.2
using OpenGL compositing
with a Intel GMA x3100 (965) Integrated Graphics Card
on ArchLinux x86_64 - Kernel 2.6.27.8

I can't reproduce this bug. Psi window doesn't become fully transparent.
Comment 9 Dario Andres 2009-05-25 20:51:36 UTC
Still works here using:

Qt: 4.5.1 (qt-copy 958974)
KDE: 4.2.87 (KDE 4.2.87 (KDE 4.3 >= 20090519))
kdelibs svn rev. 971894 / kdebase svn rev. 971894
on ArchLinux i686 - Kernel 2.6.29.3

Marking as WORKSFORME. Reopen if you can provide more information of a case in a current KDE version. Thanks
