Description Martin Fitzpatrick 2008-04-03 13:27:48 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Under Konqueror/KDE3 applications (e.g. KDESVN) could add context menu 'Actions' to perform on the currently selected folder or files. This ability doesn't exist in Dolphin. Having upgraded to KDE4 I'm now left without these context menus at all! If the reason is to reduce clutter/etc. I can understand that, but the menus do have their place for performing repeated actions quickly. Now, in order to commit a folder to SVN I need to open up the application, add the folder and then commit vs. right click, click.

Thanks.

The action menu in Dolphin and Konqueror for KDE 4 works like in KDE 3, but it requires a correct installation of service menus (usually the distributions take care for this). It seems that in your environment no correct service menus are installed...

Thanks, I will file a bug against the Kubuntu packages. Is this a specific package that is required or packages on a per-application basis?

AFAIK it's no specific package. Having "action menus" (= service menu from a KDE point of view) means only having specific *.desktop files inside the KDE service menu directory. Those specific *.desktop files come either from applications (so installing additional applications might lead to additional service menus ). It's also possible to create custom service menus (see e. g. http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Development/Tutorials/Creating_Konqueror_Service_Menus).

Thanks Peter, I've filed a bug over against the Kubuntu packages for this. I'll take a look at the tutorial, might be able to fashion myself a hack in the meantime. Much appreciated.
