Description FiNeX 2008-03-11 00:17:18 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

On KDE4 the default filemanager is dolphin, not Konqueror. On konsole the "open browser here" should open dolphin (or the KDE4 default filemanager which actually cannot be set by the user, but this is another issue).
Moreover the label should be "open file browser here" instead of "open browser here"

Konsole opens the default KDE file manager. If you change the service order for the inode/directory file type in System Settings -> File Associations you can see that the service launched by Konsole when 'Open Browser Here' is selected changes accordingly.

It might be the case that a default installation does not correctly set Dolphin as the default file manager.

"Open File Browser Here" is more accurate but it is also too long - especially when translated into more verbose languages.

Marking as unconfirmed.

Robert: ok, I've found the setting on systemsettings. you're right: it was konqueror instead as dolphin.

I've started a new test user but it has konqueror as default too. Probably it is fault of the existing KDE3 installation.
Comment 4 Robert Knight 2008-03-18 18:11:02 UTC
That does appear to be the case Finex. I changed the file association editor to show the .desktop files associated with each application and the problem occurs if Konqueror from KDE 3 and Konqueror from KDE 4 are both installed because there is a "kfmclient_dir.desktop" file from KDE 3 in /usr/share/applications/kde which has an "InitialPreference" value of 9. This takes priority over dolphin.desktop which has an "InitialPreference" value of 8.

The kfmclient_dir.desktop file that ships with KDE 4 has an InitialPreference value of "5" so Dolphin takes priority over that.

SVN commit 787199 by knight:

Bump the priority of Dolphin an application for the inode/directory mimetype. This fixes a problem where Konqueror would be preferred over Dolphin if KDE 3 and KDE 4 were both installed because the kfmclient_dir.desktop file from KDE 3 had a higher priority than Dolphin.

BUG: 159112

 M +1 -1 dolphin.desktop
