Version: (using KDE 3.5.9KDE 1.2) Installed from: 00 Google exposes both contacts and calendar access to information. All pim applications should be able to take advantage of this API natively.
I've tried to syncronize the google calendar with korganizer, it works in read only mode. Luis, please vote to this request too.
For google calendar support, see bug 125952. I've changed this bug to only cover Google contact then.
I have been using GCALDaemon (http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/) for read/write access but it is java and doesn't handle well different computers on different timezones.
I think it has not much sense, since Google contact has far less informations than KAddressBook. But well, be able to push a truncated version of the contacts to GMail would perhaps be interesting (write only sync then).
Let me give you a simple use case. Suppose I'm travelling and use a public computer to read my e-mail (web interface). During the process I add a few new contacts to the on-line gmail address book. When I come back I would like to have all those new contacts in sync with my computer at home and work. The reverse is also true. I would like the new contacts in my kaddressbook visible in my gmail address book when I'm travelling. I agree that gmail will not have as much information as kaddressbook and even less than akonadi but at least e-mail and phone number are essential for me.
There's a Thunderbird extension who does this sync. It uses xml tags in the "additional contact information" field in Gmail to store information that wouldn't fit in other fields...

I believe this bug can be closed as there is already support for google contacts and calendar in akonadi. I'm using it.
