Version: (using KDE 3.5.8) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux When trying to enter coordonates manually (I'm not using a GPX file) for CR2 files, it's not working. I have an error message saying that it was impossible to record the coordinates in the CR2 file.
Some additionnal info: I'm using Digikam on Ubuntu 7.10 (not Kubuntu). Installed from the official repos.
This is fixed with KDE4 port of kipi-plugins and digiKam. Now all read only files can be geolocalized as well. GPS info are hosted in digiKam database. Gilles Caulier
Thanks for the info Gilles. A question though, why can't exif info be modified in RAW files? I updated some dates on my RAW because my cam was set to the wrong time, so it's possible. It would be much better to store the GPS info in the raw file for me, as I use several softwares and several computers.
Francois, Because RAW file are proprietary file format in Read only (based on TIFF/EP). Threre will be an issue when Exiv2 library will support TIFF/EP in writting mode, but it's not yet the case... Gilles Caulier
Thanks for the info Gilles Just FYI, but you maybe know it, ExifTool can write to some proprietary RAW formats. I used it successfully on my CR2. So I don't know if it could be a complementary solution to libexiv2, but at least it's possible, too bad most software can't make use of it, I think it just makes sense to put this kind of info on the RAW file directly.
Yes of course, i know Exiftool, and i'm fully agree with you about to set these infos in RAW files. Like i said in post #4, tiff/ep Exiv2 writting mode (which is under development) can be an issue. I CC Andreas (Exiv2 author) to get more fresh news about this subject. Gilles Caulier
