Version: (using KDE 4.0.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux I can't control the sound volume when using KDE4 desktop. Even alsamixer don't change the volume. The sound volume control is ok outside kde4 (in kde3 for example) Card: HDA Intel Chip: Realtek ALC660
Please could you answer a few questions to help pinpoint this bug. First, when you say even alsamixer doesn't change the volume, what volume to you mean? The desktop sound effects? Amarok playback? something else? Does the volume change effect non-KDE4 apps running in your KDE4 session? For example, does amarok or kaffeine from KDE3's volume stay the same when running in a KDE4 session. Any more detail you can provide will be very useful.
"even alsamixer doesn't change the volume" : This means that I checked that kmix was modifying the "good device". It appears that it was. The volume of the desktop effects don't change but non kde apps are ok. At least I can change vlc volume with kmix or alsamixer.
What about another KDE 4 application, such as dragonplayer? Is it also impossible to change the volume for this, or is the issue only present with the sounds of desktop effects?
Are you still having this problem using a more updated KDE version like KDE 4.1.3 or trunk?
Cannot reproduce using current trunk too. Probably upgrading to a more recent version (updating Ubuntu too) will solve this issue to you too. I'm closing even because there is no feedback since months.
Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1) Kmix 3.5 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03) I experienced the problem with being unable to control volume levels via the keyboard shortcuts under KDE 4.1.x but this doesn't seem to be a problem under the first release candidate for KDE 4.2. However, the remaining problem with volume is that I cannot activate mute via the keyboard shortcuts. It is possible to activate mute if the option is selected from within the kmix system tray however. I have verified that the shortcut has been assigned in the global shortcuts menu for KDE.
