Description Jan Hrabe 2008-02-14 03:41:56 UTC
Version: 3.5.8 (using 3.5.8, Gentoo)
Compiler: Target: i686-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.23-gentoo-r8

I have firefox as the default browser. However, even when
I display an info or man page and click on a link there to another
info or man page, konqueror wants to launch firefox for some
reason. These are not even html pages.

It also would not open pages such as www.ibm.com even when
I type the address directly into the konqueror address bar.
It still wants to start firefox. This is too strict interpretation
of file association.

I can't reproduce in 3.5.9 and trunk. I set firefox as default browser, browse through the man pages, try to open a link in konqueror and it's all done through konqueror.

Could you give more information? Like konsole output, default applications that open html files ( kde components -> file associations ). Or just confirm that it still happens in 3.5.9 or kde 4.1 beta if you use it.
Comment 2 Jan Hrabe 2008-07-03 23:52:59 UTC
I currently have KDE 3.5.9 installed. When I input man:/ls in konqueror, I get
a page with 2 links (/usr/share/man/man1/ls.1.bz2 and /usr/share/man/man1p/ls.1p.bz2). Clicking on either, I get a dialog box with
3 buttons: Save as, Open with Mozilla Firefox, and Cancel.

When konqueror is started from a konsole window and the above is performed, there is no output to the konsole window.

In the kontrol center, I've chosen mozilla-firefox-2 as a default component
for the web browser. Firefox is also a default application for anything web-related (association with files *.html, *.xml, etc.).

Thanks,
Jan

Just for clarification, if konqueror is the default browser, can you still open pages that should be associated with khtml? like html and such.

If not, it's a problem with your installation, as if khtml can't be loaded or wasn't simply installed as part of kdelibs.
Comment 4 Jan Hrabe 2008-07-07 17:43:00 UTC
I can open them even without making konqueror the default browser. When the address is typed directly into the address bar, e.g., http://www.ibm.com, it opens and renders fine, so the khtml component seems to be working.

man and info links are working fine for me on kde 4.1 with firefox as my default browser. appears to be resolved.

No, the problem is still there.

Alt-F2 open a dialog box "execute a command" which allows to write an instruction.

With KDE3, it was possible to type '#cp' to have the man of cp in konqueror. #cp was a shortcut for man:/cp

With KDE4.2.2 # is no longer interpreted (regression). man:cp must be typed.
When Firefox is the default web browser, it receives man:cp and give an error message.

Suggestion: In "execute a command", # should display all occurences of man and info.

Checked this issue with Kubuntu 10.10 (kde 4.6.2) and branch 4.6 compiled from sources, works here.

#cp is a shortcut for man:/cp in KRunner (Alt+F2) and konquerors location bar

Please try again with an up to date kde, thanks.
