Description Oliver Putz 2008-02-10 21:42:05 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 4.1.2 20070214
OS: Linux

When the Plasma applet "New Device Notifier" is added to a desktop where several plasmoids are already running, its drawing gets completely screwed up once it gets added. The video that I'll attach shows this effect. I can always reproduce this bug by adding the following plasmoids:

1) Analog clock
2) Application launcher menu
3) KAlgebra
4) KGet
5) New Device Notifier (seems to have problems with not being added at leftmost position of screen)

However, other sequences for adding applets work too.

using composite?
Comment 3 Oliver Putz 2008-02-11 03:18:23 UTC
No, I do not use composite. (Its an old laptop, so the hardware would not even decently support it [VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)])
Comment 4 Aaron J. Seigo 2008-02-11 03:51:14 UTC
ok, so that's not it. i can't reproduce it here, but that doesn't mean it's not a real problem. just means it'll be very hard for me to debug.

what version of kde are you using? if from svn, what day is your update from?
Comment 5 Oliver Putz 2008-02-11 04:10:41 UTC
Hm, if you tell me how I can produce some debugging output for this bug, I'll be happy to give it a try.
As for the KDE version, the two interesting ones should be:

kdelibs	r772899
kdebase	r772956

completely OT, but don't assume it wouldn't be supported :) that sounds like
the same graphics card as my laptop, and composite works just fine with the
right settings here.

I have something similar here with the latest Debian experimental packages (4:4.0.66+svn791114-3). Only the external frame of the Notifier shows up. The list of new devices is completely transparent. Also the "corona", in which you can select the options to delete, rotate and configure the widget, is not drawn completely around the Notifier frame but has the size of a smaller box.
Comment 8 Christopher Blauvelt 2008-04-07 14:22:19 UTC
I can confirm this behaviour when dropping devicenotifier on the desktop. I figured it was just another problem with my configuration. I run kubuntu which is debian based so maybe there's a connection there. The "corona" that he mentions is the applet_handle.
Comment 9 Thomas Georgiou 2008-07-05 18:04:22 UTC
Can you still reproduce this?
Comment 10 Arnout Boelens 2008-07-05 18:46:10 UTC
Devicenotifier works fine now for me except one thing. When it is scaled down enough, the applet handle still becomes smaller than the applet.
