Decoding raw images is a process that takes a relatively long time, so browsing through a collection of raw images is slowly. Some cameras (for example Olympus) provide preview images in the raw file that are much easier to read for dcraw. So my suggestion is to use the preview image for initial displaying as long as the real image is being decoded. That would be a great speed up for raw image browsing.

This bug is invalid. digiKam already use emebeded preview from RAW files to speed up browsing. Just use the right mode in album GUI : press F3 (preview).
