Description Stephan Weber 2008-02-01 21:32:14 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

After installation of KDE 4 on Kubuntu everything works as expected. Local logins are no problem, just enter user/password in kdm and you're welcomed with the new splash screen.
If you try to login from a different machine (e.g. using Xming) you see the KDM login screen and it is possible to enter user/password.
But after a few seconds the X server crashes and returns to KDM login screen.

In /var/log/syslog there is an entry:
kdm[xxxx]: Unknown session exit code 0 (sig 11) from manager process

Summary:
Local login just works fine, remote login using XDMCP fails.

Hi Stephan. I don't have a setup where I can test this, so I am wondering if you still have the same problem with a newer KDE release like 4.0.4?

please retry with kde 4.1. it might even be able to create a backtrace by itself ... if not, follow the instructions in the kdm README.

No news from the bug reporter, closing. Please reopen this bug report if you experience the same bug again with a recent KDE (4.1.4 / 4.2beta2 / 4.2rc1 / 4.2svn / 4.3svn) . Thanks :)
