Description Josef Spillner 2008-01-29 10:50:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I received a mail with an offer for a meeting. The scheduled time was not good for me, so I clicked "create counterproposal". KMail then interacted with KOrganizer in a way that it put the date into my calendar. That's all good, but KMail also removed the mail from the folder. This is a very destructive and non-intuitive action. Now the mail is gone, and since I cancelled the meeting before recognising it, the calendar entry is gone as well. Loss of information, powered by KMail. I'm totally willing to reproduce the bug but obviously that's impossible with the lost mail :)

Have you checked trash-folder, kmail moves those calendar emails to trash after it's on calendar.
Comment 2 Josef Spillner 2008-01-29 11:05:28 UTC
Indeed, I found it in the trash. So the fix would be to not move it anywhere. No user would ever suspect it in the trash. The Principle of Least Surprise should be honoured more than convenience or compatibility in this case.

Josef, this behavior is configurable, but on by default, as people in a corporate context who get a lot of invitations really want them to be moved away automatically. YOu can turn it off via kiosk, or by setting the config key in your kmailrc manually. I don't remember if there's gui for the option too. kmail.kcfg should tell you. Cheers.

Closing.
Comment 5 Josef Spillner 2008-01-29 11:23:20 UTC
This can be solved better, e.g. by having a dialogue with a don't-ask-again flag. This is precisely such a situation where it would be needed. I'm not working in a corporate context, yet I receive such mails occasionally, and I'm a big fan of 'secure by default', as well as 'logical by default'.

I changed severity to wishlist, but please don't close the bug without fixing the underlying issue.
