Description Dmitrii 'Mamut' Dimandt 2008-01-25 09:01:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

1. Select and copy text in a KDE app (Kate for example)
2. Close the application
3. Attempt to paste buffer contents to a GTK+ application (Firefox, gedit)

Nothing is pasted. Pasting between KDE apps works, however, even if the original application is closed.

This problem has been reproduced under both Ubuntu and KUbuntu 7.10

Works perfectly fine here. Do you have Klipper running? Can you paste e.g. to xedit or xterm?
Comment 2 Dmitrii 'Mamut' Dimandt 2008-01-25 14:38:56 UTC
Nope, Klipper is not running because of it's apparent problems with gimp.

Besides, klipper's effect on clipboard in this case (if any, because it's counterpart, glipper doesn't help in this situation) is just a side effect of what it does.

Actually, I've discovered a similar bug 32505 (it is reportedly fixed, but I still experience the same problem).

The problem exists only when trying to paste from a closed KDE application to a GTL+ app, so there might be a communication issue between the two worlds...

Copying from closed applications does not work without a clipboard tool. Maybe in your KDE case it worked because the application did not really quit (can happen e.g. with Konqueror becoming hidden in background for preloading), but generally this cannot work.

Indeed. Though to me it seems quite strange that a basic functionality like this is left to a tool that generates so many bug reports...
