Description sombragris 2008-01-23 13:01:29 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 4.1.2 Slackware 12.0, Pentium III 450 MHz, 256 MB RAM
OS: Linux

The KDE Printing dialog for KDE 4.x series is remarkably incomplete and lacking in options. I tried to print something from Konqueror and KMail (yes, I am using a SVN snapshot from last Sunday) and the printing would be fine, but the margins are unacceptably tiny and there is no way of setting margins from inside the printing dialogs.

Furthermore, searching in System Settings yields no results for any printing or hardware module.

The printing dialog should be able to allow custom margins.

I am filing this as a bug, since the ability was present in KDE 3.5.x so this must be an obvious regression.

Thanks and best regards,

Quote from http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/KDEPrint/KDE4:
"KDEPrint has been removed from kdelibs and kdecore for the 4.0 release. All applications have been ported to use Qt's printing functions instead. Qt 4.4 will bring further enhancements, after which time a decision will be made on printing support in KDE 4.1."

My interpretation of this is that it's known that the functionality is missing and will hopefully return in time for KDE 4.1. I have no idea how to fix the margins since I'm not involved in kdeprint at all.

KDE4 uses the Qt Print Dialog, which up to 4.3 was lacking in features. Many new features have arrived in Qt4.4, including the ability to change the margins. Qt4.4 is required for KDE 4.1, and if installed will also work for 4.0. As Qt4.4 is now released and this problem is solved, now closing.
