Description Jay LaCroix 2008-01-23 05:20:00 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

Every now and then, my Firefox and Thunderbird will be drawn with GTK. Normally, the two apps don't have a theme that shines through KDE4.

On my Gnome desktop, I have a Murrine theme installed. When I log in to KDE4, Firefox and Thunderbird look as they should. After a while, all of a sudden my Gnome theme Murrine (or whatever Gnome theme I am using at the moment) will come through and "infect" Firefox and Thunderbird to where they are using a Gnome theme.

This is not typical behavior, as this did not happen with KDE3.5.x.

Although I'm not 100% sure what causes this problem, it seems to happen the most when I try to enable desktop effects in KDE4 while Firefox and Thunderbird are open. My enabling of Desktop Effects fails (the screen turns completely black, then times out and disables itself) and when the screen comes back, Firefox and Thunderbird are switched to a Gnome theme.

I hope I'm explaining this well. Please move the appropriate place/package if I did it wrong. I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to test the problem for you guys.

Thanks for the stellar KDE4!!!

Sorry I forgot to mention I've not used Gnome since KDE4 was released, so I didn't configure anything in Gnome that started this problem. Desktop effects don't work at all so I'm wondering if whatever is causing desktop effects to fail is also causing this. I understand Firefox/Thunderbird isn't in your jurisdiction, but I it can't be a bug with their applications because this problem never happened in KDE 3.5.x.

In order for Thunderbird/Firefox to look normal again, I log out of KDE4 and then back in, and its fixed for a while until it happens again. I use KDM instead of GDM.

Thanks again.

I haven't had this problem in a VERY long time, so I am going to mark this as fixed unless it happens to me again.
