Hi

The plasma news ticker widget sometimes seems to be causing plasma to consume > 40% CPU. Upon plasma startup, my laptop CPU fan starts to blow which it rarely does, top reveals plasma running at 40%, load average 3-4 and an strace as attached.

I selectively closed widgets on the screen and the CPU load dropped to normal when the news ticker widget was closed.

Processor is a single Pentium M 1.6Hhz, if that helps.
Thanks

this is actually an upstream bug in Qt, and they are aware of it. i wish bugzilla had an Upstream option for closing; in my dreams it would even forward it on to the upstream's tracker.

i'm marking it INVALID, even though it isn't. it's just that we're working on this upstream in their process. thanks for reporting, though, very thoroughly researched and reported.

For what it's worth, the load caused by the news ticker should be much lower if you choose the 'paging' view in the configuration dialog.
