Version: (using KDE 4.0.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux I created additional user account for work with KDE4 and found that: - If I do "cold" start from power off state and log into KDE4 session immediatly, all applications starting very slowly and it windows refreshed with big delays too. For example, if I start firefox or dolphin and close it windows as soon as possible, the times was: ~> time firefox real 0m12.000s user 0m7.532s sys 0m0.548s ~> time /usr/bin/dolphin real 0m3.847s user 0m0.068s sys 0m0.024s - If I do "cold" start from power off state and log into KDE3 session first, then logged out and log into KDE4 session without "full" restart of computer, applications start relatively faster, with times < 1.0 s and without any visible delays. The computer: RoverBook Voyager B400L (formely Clevo M350C) with Celeron-M 1400MHz, 1024M RAM, i855G onboard video with 64M shared memory How I can debug this trouble?
You can't. Dolphin taking few seconds to launch with cold start is perfectly normal, unfortunately, and it's not KDE's fault.
That is not "only Dolphin" problem. Dolfin in my previous comment was used for example only. The problem of "slow start" have place with all other applications - Konsole, Kopete, etc.
Replace 'Dolphin' with 'any application' in the comment.

I see it too with every KDE-application in version 4.1.85. The "constant" latency is much lower on kde 3.5
Recent kernels have improved this. Please close the bug.
