Description Bernd Steinhauser 2008-01-17 18:22:36 UTC
Version:            (using Devel)
Installed from:    Compiled sources

As requested on bug 154637 I opened a new bug report for this issue.

To explain the problem I'll copy my comment from that bug report:

-----
Actually I just found out, that it does also not work, when there are no effects set at all.
I did now track it down to this:

kwin4_effect_blurEnabled=false
kwin4_effect_fadeEnabled=true
--> ok

kwin4_effect_blurEnabled=false
kwin4_effect_fadeEnabled=false
--> bug (I'm not entirely sure about this one, but 90%)

kwin4_effect_blurEnabled=true
--> bug (other settings don't change anything here)

Hope others can reproduce it.

The issue with fade might be the problem, that is discribed in bug 154969.
Comment 2 Marcel Wirth 2008-01-18 18:49:35 UTC
Can confirm this with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 and kubuntu.
Comment 3 Gunnar Kriik 2008-01-22 22:43:15 UTC
Same problem on Archlinux with Nvidia 7900 GS. This only happens when the Blur effect is enabled.
Comment 4 Valentin Longchamp 2008-01-26 18:50:53 UTC
I can also confirm exactly this with a NVIDIA Geforce 7600 GS and Kubuntu. My current workaround is also not to enable the blur effect (but for me fade is NEVER enabled) and this has definitely something to do with the blur effect and fade plays no role.

Can somebody still reproduce this problem after r807454 (r807453 in 4.0 branch)?
Comment 7 Mark Eaton 2008-05-14 00:56:56 UTC
If I enable blur, I still get a black screen on login. I have to activate the desktop grid to fix it. I'm running head (built 2 or 3 times a week).
Comment 8 Mark Eaton 2008-05-16 03:40:25 UTC
I rebuilt this last night and it seems to be fix for me now.
Comment 9 Mike 2008-05-16 14:11:07 UTC
It is working for me too since this patch.
Comment 10 erik_hahn 2008-05-17 03:07:08 UTC
Isn't this a duplicate of bug 154637?

Re comment 10:
Please read the bug again...

@ Lubos Lunak, sorry haven't been able to test this, yet. I'll do in a few days.
Comment 12 Lubos Lunak 2008-05-23 00:06:41 UTC
Closing as fixed unless somebody can still confirm the problem.
Comment 13 S. Burmeister 2008-05-23 15:45:48 UTC
I can reproduce it with the packages from 10.3 KDE4:STABLE
Comment 14 Lubos Lunak 2008-06-06 16:00:48 UTC
Reopening.
Comment 15 Bart Kelsey 2008-06-11 20:34:46 UTC
I can confirm this bug as well (except my screen flashes black and back to the desktop, and meanwhile everything is frozen). If I kill and restart kwin without restarting KDE, it seems to work fine, with blur enabled. Turning blur off fixes it.
Comment 16 Martin Flöser 2010-03-31 18:21:13 UTC
As there will be a new blur effect in KDE SC 4.5 it does not make sense to keep this report open. If the new blur effect should show the same issue, it is a new bug unrelated to this one.
