I don't have a debug version right now, so I run it from the terminal and here's the output of the console (which seams to be a kwallet problem).
I used to have kwallet enabled with all the accounts using it, I disabled kwallet, I deleted all the accounts, I deleted all the configuration files that are kopete-related from ~/.kde/share/config and added one Yahoo! account.

I think I exited kwallet when it asked me for the first time the "setup wizard" or whatever it was...

Now in kopete when I change status to online it prints in console:

you need to reenable kwallet, that's for sure. Kopete relies exclusively on KWallet for password saving now, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I tried to do this (by checking/unchecking the enable kwallet checkbox), no luck...
Tried to uninstall/reinstall kwallet too, even deleted all the .kde/blabla files related to kwallet or kopete... Still no luck, kwallet refuses to create new wallets...

Like Pali, I can't confirm this. I don't think this is a kopete problem. If you already tried removing the kwallet directory, and that didn't do anything, you can try moving your .kde4 to another folder, and restarting and then you can create a new kwallet, then move everything back. Possibly overkill. Anyway, get some tech support on this, and if it doesn't work, then please reopen, but after making a new wallet in 4, I had no further problems.
