Description Jay LaCroix 2008-01-15 01:26:33 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 4.0.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

This is just an idea on what I think the best method is to let users resize the plasma panel. I'll try to explain as best I can, so please go easy on me ;)

First of all, there would be no configuration menu whatsoever for plasma panel size. If you move your mouse cursor to the edge of the plasma panel, the mouse cursor would change to arrows and allow you to freely resize the panel just as you would resize a window.

For moving the panel, all you'd need to do is click and hold the left mouse button anywhere on the panel where there is no icon, and freely move it around anywhere on the desktop.

To be safe, if you rightclick anywhere on the desktop, there would be an option to lock the plasma panel size and location so people don't accidentally move it somewhere unintended. Also there could be an option to add a new panel which you can move/resize the same way. In addition, another rightclick option may be to make the panel expand the entire width of the desktop screen.

The reason I don't think a configuration menu is necessary for the resizing of the panel is due to bloat, I don't think there is a good reason to have a config dialog for this purpose, when it can all be done logically with the mouse. Besides, KDE4 is smarter than that. :)

hi Jeremy..

thanks for the input. this discussion really belongs on panel-devel at kde dot org, however, not here on bugs.kde.org. you're quite welcome to take further ideas to the list.

as for this particular point, yes, i have no intention of introducing a complex set of dialogs or menus for this purpose and intend to do something similar (not exact, but similar) to the desktop toolbox.
